Universidad del Este

The Universidad del Este is the youngest of the institutions of AGMUS. Its creation rests on the extensive history of educational prestige of the Puerto Rico Junior College, which was the first institution of higher education at the level of associate degrees established on the Island (1949).

Between the years 1990 and 1991, the Institution developed an extensive and in-depth process of revision of its mission, with a view to respond more effectively to the challenges and needs of the community. This revision process included three substantial changes: a new name, the increase in its academic offerings (from associate degrees to bachelor’s degrees) and the relocation of its main campus to a new geographic market (Carolina).

Principles

The principles that guide this educational institution are knowledge, justice, honor and freedom.

With its main campus located in Carolina, the Institution’s primary market is the northeastern region of Puerto Rico. Its customers are young students of a varied socioeconomic background, the majority of them graduates of schools of the public system of Puerto Rico. The UNE also serves the educational and training needs of non-traditional students, adults and workers seeking greater professional or personal development.
